Tomorrow will be fifth anniversary of tormented Levar’s murder. Five years! How quickly time flies! It is ten years now since Oluja (Storm), almost fifteen since the beginning of dissolution of former country community, which came out so expensive. And questions and doubts are not decreasing; but on contrary, only increases all the time. Some of the questions appear in regular intervals – for example, when is time for some of anniversaries. It appears as criminals bounded for scene of a crime, which is for them, a place of incomprehensible come-on. Questions as criminals? Questions about criminals as criminals? Should they be silenced, scare them, isolate? That seems so, and now I’m going to demonstrate it once more, to those rears who are interested in subject. In Croatia, who asks, wanders a lot.
And in the end, dark will eat him alive.
Easy on you that Croatian hate
Those rares who are interested in this, can in my book, and related to Levar’s funeral, five years ago, read the following: «Milan Levar is put down in grave, in front of not many people, and more or less, in silence. Over the grave the State kept in silence.
Civil Croatia also like that, still is in one elegant mourning, because of completely different reason (funeral of tragicaly died actress), choose to watch this funeral from distance. Only police, all kinds of police, bend over the grave abundantly. Police was guarding the deceased as a great treasure, as if he could rise alive. Milan Levar was buried in hate, the last day of August, which didn’t bring any good, anyway. «(Die under stars, page 97. Text is on date 4. September 2000.). It was good to add:
Easy on you that Croatian hate!, as far as he buried in it. On that same place, now in the book, I made a note of footsteps of Djapic’s silent triumph, which was shown like that: Levar had to know what would happen to him! He got what he deserved! So, then, let’s say it from this five-year perspective, everything is all right? Levar got what he deserved. Not everybody get in Croatia what they ask for, far from that. Mark’s square, till recently, was full of those people who were asking for something, and they didn’t get anything. But Djapic’s axiom, from not far 2000.,crystaly clear: Levar and those like him, belong to not very big group of those who must count on that they would get what they ask for.
Anto Djapic
What Milan Levar was looking for?
Nothing for himself. He was onla looking for a good ear for what he has seen, forced or willingly; for what he saw, and he couldn’t live with that peacefully. So, finally, he wasn’t let to live: his unrest is calmed down, he is, according to Ante Djapic, paid, and paid are also, that means, calmed down, those who would be very disturbed because of Levar, if he was alive, from time to time.
Memory of the future
There it goes: five years has passed. The title of the column was: «Who is next?» in queue for peyment and relax. Also is: «We think of Levar’s funeral as a shameful scandal, almost as horrible as the very act of torturing murder, done by a hand of Croatian fascism, we are by the very fact of it candidates for eternity, in which, by the way, we don’t trust very much. I don’t know where is Levar’s soul right now, except in some memory of future of one of completely different country, which, so far, in that future can take only its name».
So let’s ask once more: Where is Levar’s soul right now? In long meantime, since the funeral till today, over our heads have passed ensembles and coalitions, secret services have been on wind and have been evaporated (checked), a hard battle was fought for the truth, for the whole and final truth (for example, about «civil war», events in Gospic’s and other darkened backgrounds), Croatian political Olimp was trembling very much…but the mouse of truth didn’t run out. Five years! It is longer than on our areas lasted World War II. That is whole five-year plan of manipulation, frightening, speechlessness…especialy when we talk about whole and final truth!
Five years, then. To Levar’s son was given a bike which he wanted very much, and to Levar’s widow something like humble rent – it all reminds me of wondering settlement with descendants of Zec family, whose members were killed in one of earlier «success» of Croatian fascism (as the squadrons of death exactly were named in column in 2000.).
Bike+rent=BLOOD-MONEY. Maybe it wouldn’t be bad , because of transparency of the trade like this that state makes price list of arrangements as this one with help of one highly ranked Parliamentary commission, and President would be Anto Djapic, if possible, the politician from 2000. (Although his recent statements in Glavas case are pretty the same.) Indeed, Levar’s son could himself one day ask something, even very unpleasant; for example, how come that his father appeared in bike.
Peratovic in Don Quixoteic situation
By mentioned blood-money, the state, which on the day of Levar’s funeral choose some other ceremony from offer, admited its part of guilt, huge and crucial, because it didn’t protect the man, who knew too much, who started to talk about things he knew, which was extremely obnoxious development for Croatia. One of those who with his initiative, and in spirit so called, investigative journalism, collected some knowledgements about torturing liquidation of Milan Levar is many times awarded journalist Zeljko Peratovic.
In journalist profession he is certanly in line of those the most competent for the things known about Levar, and not suppose to be known. He knows, for instance, that liquidation was announced and who announced it. Many times in that connection he suggested to the authorised ones to start investigative activities, and he pleased (literaly), to listen to him and to someone who holds this or that lever in hand in «intelligence community», say what he knows. But his knowledge was not wellcome. Peratovic is for years in rather Don Quixoteic situation, only windmills he is fighting against, are not some ghosts, but people on positions, who protect their positions, and in that way discourage the truth. The truth about Levar’s liquidation – which is obviously the fruit of cooperation highly ranked powerful people and banal slaughtermen and murderes – seems that nobody needs it. Indeed, it is so dangerous, that is, as some state secret (not to say: shame), guarded in crypt of state interests and reasons. In such situation the knowledge is in fact impotence. Even more than that: it is dangerous.

Peratovic has the chance to check this fact by expensive method of personal skin: he was given a fast dismissal in «Vjesnik», that state guardian of state interests and truths, with explanations which don’t make sense. He published in Feral an interview for which his recent editorial office didn’t show any interest! That could be a motive (conflict of interests), but the real reason is that Peratovic insisted on facts, names, dangerous connections, which he, by personal investigative activities, came up to, especialy about Gospic and similar darknesses. In his dismissal is denied as a good journalist. The worl doesn’t think so. In an angry official letter of association «Reporters without borders of Austria», remind the director of «Vjesnik» (Franjo Maletic) that Peratovic, exactly during his investigation, awarded with prominent international awards, among others, also form mentioned association (he got Press Freedom Award 2003.). As in similar cases, only chance for the truth, in this case also Peratovic’s, that his newly case internationalise.
The state newspapers will throw out of its lines a person who is unpleasant for the state; there is nothing new about that, but it has to be known about what kind of state, what truth is all about. In some way (better: in every way), five years after murder and funeral, is perpetuated the scandal of absence, not-doing, deafness of the state for the truth.
